Today, I had been to The AtoZ Hypermarket, a big Monopoly in this area of the city.
Whatever you may search for, envelopes or engines, for your home or office, AtoZ gives you.
AtoZ has grown to occupy the entire block. Imagine just a decade ago, this street did not look so upmarket. Even a few years ago there still used to be dozens of small shops. They have all vanished as if they never were.
Can you imagine a beautiful line from ancient Indian scriptures having something in common with a commercial Bollywood film? Can the line be repurposed by Cool Chilli for his Views on News of a US Court case involving two tech giants?
The AtoZ Hyper-market is monopolizing the trade in this area. We don't know how e-comm or a hybrid version of it will eventually pan out over this decade and the next. But e-comm has already started taking effect.
The other Monopoly that's recently in the news is Google's vice-like grip over the search engine market. Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO has even testified very vigorously about the Sundar Pichai managed Google's abusive dominance of the search engine market. The US Government may be forced to clip Google's wings.
Which brings us to another curious and stark reality. A India born CEO of a Tech Giant appearing against the India born CEO of another Tech Giant. In the Court presided by a India born Judge. All this, very far from the land of their birth!
Along with the increasing arrivals of political leaders of Indian origin, are we seeing the beginning of a growing Monopoly?
With a little change to Shakespeare's views on greatness, we may say
Some monopolies are born with a natural expiry date, some achieve Government sanction, while others seem to have 'Monopolies' unwittingly thrust on them!
